Today salinas across the Mediterranean are suffering from environmental pressures and economic stress. Their products face strong competition from cheaper land-produced salt and from the world trade. To stay viable, salinas are confronted with the choice of closing, industrializing the production or changing the business orientation towards sustainable tourism and new artisanal products. This third option is the idea behind MedArtSal. In this context, the Tunisian-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CTICI) is organizing the MedArtSal event in hybrid mode.
Create a network of Mediterranean artisanal salt mines
Create partnerships between national and international participants
Promote local culture and wealth
Introduce salt mining activities to children and families
Involve government entities to help restore this golden age of salt production
Revitalize the region’s economy by involving local businesses and communities
Promote local salt-related traditions and history
Launch pilot ecotourism projects
To communicate to the audience the purpose of Medarsal, the background story and including the welcome address from the local officials, institutions, funding agencies, and corresponding relevant public authorities.
A program of panels and keynotes will be presented by our partners and guests on the afternoon of Friday 28 January and on the 2nd day to discuss the outputs of the project as well as to give a sustainable model of saltworks management for the development of the sector in the Mediterranean region
All online participants have the possibility to send online appointment requests during the two days of the event. The accepted requests constitute the schedule of meetings that will be executed via videocall. It is an opportunity to create meetings between Tunisian and international participants in order to establish partnerships and cooperation projects.
